Monday to Sunday 12noon to 9.30pm
I've always skipped past Toni's to the newer, trendier spots on Kloof Street. We recently moved into the area though, and I've been looking for a new local - somewhere unpretentious that we can go to once a month or so when we don't feel like cooking - and Toni's seemed to fit the bill. It was a warm evening and the outside deck was busy, but we found a table. We tried the feijoada - a Portuguese stew laced with lots of paprika and filled with tasty white beans, chicken, chorizo and morcela (which is apparently a kind of black sausage) - it was very tasty - probably better suited to winter than summer though. I had the Mozambican chicken and prawn curry which was thoroughly coconutty and had great heat, and fresh coriander. All in all, it was very tasty; portions were generous, and prices affordable. Service was a little slow - but it was busy and a public holiday, so fair enough. I reckon they need to get more than one card machine though! We'll be back to try the trinchado and the peri peri chicken.
