Food:

Opt for a slice of chicken pie (perhaps the best in Jozi), or crumpets stacked three-high with mascarpone, bacon, strawberries and Maple syrup. Other options include great organic salads, gluten-free Belgian chocolate cake, and scrumptious toasted croissants with fluffy scrambled eggs and perfectly crisped bacon.

Wine:

A small but good selection.

Service:

Friendly and helpful to the extent that we were offered a plate to share. Waitrons were knowledgeable and able to eloquently recite the day’s fresh juices and other specialities.

Ambience:

From pretty antique roses in silver bowls to restored Bentwood chairs and soft, worn damask, it’s all delightfully old world. Moms can bring their broods – dressed up in finery - for tea to teach them about the finer things in life.

And...:

The bookshop offers a range of great literature and gifts, and there’s couture one shop down from the restaurant. Perfect for the ladies who lunch. (HF, October 2011)
