Food:

Harrie’s Pancakes, as the name suggests, is all about pancakes, and it even ensures that those who are dairy and gluten intolerant are catered for. The menu does feature a few other options: salads, croissants and great eggs Florentine. The pancakes shine, however, with fillings like chicken and mushroom with cashew nuts; bobotie with chutney vinaigrette or haddock; or spinach, mushroom and cheese as possible savoury options.

Wine:

Wines are limited to generic red or white, but other beverages including coffees and teas are perfect.

Service:

Waitrons are polite and efficient, while management may consider their status to be too elevated to interact politely with customers.

Ambience:

The modern interior does double duty as a gallery space, with some spectacular South African artworks adding to patrons’ enjoyment. Elegant little cards on each table displaying the story of pancakes are a nice touch.

And...:

Shop for good-quality local crafts while having decadent pancakes. There are branches in Dullstroom, Pretoria, Richmond and Cape Town. (HF, September 2010)
