Owner's description

Beira Altas family tradition is to cook from the heart with recipes handed down from generation to generation, which has evolved into Portuguese Cuisine with an African Influence. The menu offers flame grilled chickens and platters piled high with pan-fried prawns, smothered with a blend of spices, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic.

The South African desire for red meat remains unabated so Beira Alta serves unashamedly large portions, smothered in chef’s unique sauces. Seafood however, remains the top seller. Traditional recipes are served plain or spicy.

The food is totally amazing and the service from staff is excellent, place is always in a top standard and everyone is friendly and atmosphere is homely and relaxed keep up the great work guys 5 star service
This use to be our favourite dining spot however the service and food is now deteriorating i find and we go less and less often. Tge decor and setup needs a makeover. Tge service is average and the food ok both in terms of taste and value for me.
This is my absolute favourite Portugese restaurant in Johannesburg. The food is amazing and it's hard for me to eat anywhere else in montecasino. The service matches the quality of the food. Always a happy evening when dining here!
The ambience is slightly lacking in comparison to the splendor of their surroundings and the decor is in desperate need of an update, however the food is always good. The waiters could be more attentive. You don't feel like you can sit back and relax for the evening - like you do in most of the restaurants in Monte Casino.
We decided to have dinner here as a party of 8 before a show. Two of our party are fine dining head chefs. The food wasn't bad - some good dishes and some average ones. I had a pork dish and the pork was dry and completely overcooked. My brother had Paulo's mixed grill which he raved about.

The service, however, was dismal. It was grudging at best and it was a battle to get anyone's attention - in spite of the fact that they knew we had a show to get to because they asked when we arrived. Dishes arrived in tragically spaced relays and the delay between starters and mains was far too long - in excess of 45 minutes

The crowning glory, however, was a sirloin that was ordered rare. What arrived was a rump that was medium. Instead of a simple apology and rectifying the order, the kitchen manager argued with the diner that the steak was actually the right temperature on the pass and then argued with our two chefs that this was in fact a sirloin.....

If you can't handle a busy restaurant then you shouldn't be in that business.

We will not be returning there ever......
