On the 20th May 2013 Gabirelle Le Roux and her team are hosting the Bake a Difference and Save 7 Lives Cupcake Drive at the Cape Town Hotel School Restaurant along with 9 well known chefs/food personalities paired up with 9 transplant patients to create awareness for the Organ Donor Foundation. They have a goal of reaching 50 000 registrations by the end of 2013 (1% of the population).
Every person has the ability through organ donating, to save 7 lives of those who are anxiously awaiting donors! It's a commitment that you make to give the gift of life after your own death by preventing seven families from going through what your family inevitably will.
It's costs you nothing, and only requires 2 minutes of your time to sign up. The problem isn't with people not being willing to help, it's that people don't always know how or what a significant difference they can make especially with organ donating! Many of the kids involved on the day are only here because someone else decided a long time ago that they wanted to bring meaning to other people's lives long after their own passing, and thanks to these donors we have kids like Robert, Ashley and Awonke who are able to still be with us here today.
The 9 women involved are:
Chef Lorraine Meaney - Head Pastry Chef at The Cape Grace Hotel
Chef Rene Simatos - Head Pastry Chef at The One & Only Hotel
Abigail Donnelly - Editor of Taste Magazine and Eat Out
Ina Paarman - Ina Paarman Foods
Nina Timm - www.my-easy-cooking.com
Dawn Jorgensen - The Incidental Tourist (Jorgensen Distillery)
Sue Ann Allen - Masterchef SA Runner up; Table of Friends
Jenny Morris - Giggling Gourmet
Chef Danielle Barkhuizen - Cape Town Hotel School Restaurant Chef
International Patisserie Chef Eric Lanlard from the popular BBC shows 'Glamour Puds' and 'Baking Mad' and owner of Cake Boy in London will do a live demonstration of his very own Red Velvet Cupcake Recipe.
Due to limited space not everyone who registers in the drive will be able to attend the event, and they have decided to do a random lucky draw to see who will be able to attend the day and to give away some of the amazing prizes sponsored by all the industry supporters, to those who cannot.
If you are wanting to register and become a donor yourself, follow this link https://www.odf.org.za/2012-07-18-09-39-32/register-as-an-organ-donor.html and remember to select 'Bake a Difference.' in the 'How did you hear about us?' section to be part of the drive.
